Material Types
Plantation shutters come in three material types: vinyl, composite wood, and true wood. Vinyl shutters are durable and moisture-resistant, composite wood offers the look and feel of real wood with added durability, and true wood shutters provide a natural aesthetic. Learn more about the material that suits your style and needs below.
Vinyl
Vinyl Plantation Shutters
In Myrtle Beach, vinyl shutters reign as the most popular material choice. They offer affordability, durability, and an excellent warranty. Constructed with resilient vinyl, similar to many windows, these shutters are engineered to withstand warping, chipping, fading, and moisture. With a manufacturer's warranty of 25 years, our vinyl shutters provide long-lasting peace of mind. When it comes to shutter recommendations, we highly endorse the benefits of vinyl shutters.
Composite Wood
Composite Plantation Shutters
Composite shutters, also known as engineered wood or faux wood, are crafted from medium-density fiberboard wrapped in a vinyl coating. This combination offers the appearance and texture of real wood while providing a more affordable option compared to true wood shutters. With their durability, authentic look, and feel, composite shutters strike a balance between vinyl and true wood. Many individuals opt for composite wood shutters as they deliver a traditional material aesthetic without the maintenance requirements associated with true wood.
True Wood
Wood Plantation Shutters
True wood shutters embody timeless elegance and are available in a wide range of colors and textures, making them a classic choice. While they may be the most expensive option, their luxurious appeal is unmatched. For those seeking true wood shutters, we highly recommend the Hunter Douglas Heritance® Hardwood Shutters. Crafted with exquisite attention to detail, these shutters exude sophistication and elevate the aesthetics of any space. Experience the unmatched beauty and craftsmanship of true wood shutters with the Heritance® collection by Hunter Douglas.
Louver Sizes
Plantation shutters are available in three different louver sizes. The most popular size is 3 1/2", which offers a versatile and timeless look. For those desiring a classic statement, check out the 2 1/2" louver size. If you prefer a more modern aesthetic, the 4 1/2" louver size offers a contemporary and stylish option.
Inside Mount / Outside Mount
When selecting shutters for your home, one important decision to consider is whether to opt for an inside mount or an outside mount. An inside mount involves mounting the shutters inside the window jamb, resulting in a seamless and integrated appearance. On the other hand, an outside mount entails mounting the shutters outside the window jamb, creating a distinct "box" around the window. Choosing an outside mount allows for easier window cleaning, as it preserves the window's tilt feature, which may be obstructed with an inside mount.

Panel Configurations
When it comes to panel configurations, we have simplified it to three common options for your convenience.

The first is the Single Panel configuration, which consists of a single shutter panel that covers the entire window.
The second is the Double Panel configuration, featuring two panels that can be opened independently for added flexibility in light control. Lastly, we have the Cafe Style configuration, where the shutters cover only the lower portion of the window, allowing for privacy while still allowing natural light to enter from the top.
